The fundraising continues to remember Jacob Jenkins, who died recently.

Meanwhile Ben Picken has also set up a fundraising page which has already raised over £20,000 in one month.

West Park are First Class!

West Park Primary School are set to be the first 'solar' school in Hartlepool.

Paul Hewitson, project co-ordinator of Hartlepower CIC asked listeners of Radio Hartlepool to vote in the 'M&S Community Energy' competition.

It was a nail-biting time as the local school was up against several across the country to be in with a chance of winning the funding of £40,000.

The pupils and parents used social media networks such as Facebook and Twitter to gain votes.

The school is already classed as a 'green flag eco school' and now winning this will ensure they can take it to the next level.

Radio Hartlepool helped this community action by producing a 'community break' news story which was played every day leading up to the closing date.

Training together, working together

Twelve apprentices who trained in welding are sticking together when it comes to finding work.

After completing a successful programme at Hartlepool Training and Employment Services, they were handpicked by local company, CPD BODIES of Stockton to commence full-time employment.

Brian Goodlad from Hartleppool Training and Employment Services said "It's a tremendous boost for young people when they see there are real jobs out there. Our apprenticeships are not fruitless programmes, there are endless results and this is the perfect example."
